Aircraft Safety Criteria
As you commence lessons your first major goal is to go solo. To achieve this you need to satisfy your instructor on a practical sense that you can fly and land the aircraft on your own in varying weather conditions. You will also need to pass the pre-solo written exam. Immediately after this exciting achievement you will need to have an aircraft of your own to fly, as then a minimum of 5 hours flying solo is required, under your instructors supervision, before you qualify to be issued with a pilot's license.

Safety for people's health and well being is the most important ingredient taught and practised at Gawler Microlights. This is followed very closely by the safety and care of equipment and the hunger to have fun!

Gawler Microlights has a faultless record of safety for both people and flying machine, and work very hard for it to stay that way.
We wish to be instructing and providing the experience of Microlight flying for many years to come, and will only do so if safety is kept at a premium.

Flying in any form of recreational aircraft is considered as a high risk activity, but the extent of that risk can be greatly reduced by:-

  1. Sound practical training and information.
  2. High quality and well maintained equipment.
  3. Respect and good knowledge of the weather and suitable flying conditions.

Gawler Microlights can, and has provided, proven training and testing procedures to satisfy items 1 & 3.

For Gawler Microlights to retain it's high standard of safety success and to assure it's students of many years of hassle free fun, we highly recommend the purchase of new aircraft (please see the Airborne web site or talk to Rob as there are many models to suit your needs and yout wallet).

As Trikes are a recreational aircraft they do not require a certified aircraft mechanic (L.A.M.E.) to conduct the maintenance. The maintenance is therefore generally conducted by the owner and a documented Log is kept of this. Depending on the owners skills, this maintenance and repair can vary a lot, in standard, from aircraft to aircraft.

Second-hand aircraft are available, and can be suitable, but will only be allowed if Gawler Microlights has, or can obtain, an intimate knowledge of it’s history. Once taking on a student we only have your best interest at heart.
Be smart, and make use of the experience and knowledge of your instructor.
